Let's Eat

I told y'all I was testing out my ankle last week, and it has been reaffirmed that I'm not back to 100% yet. Arrgggg! That's how I feel. I want to run, which is a big deal for me, but I'm not ready yet. My ankle doesn't look like this anymore, but I definitely don't have all my mobility or strength back yet. Patience. No sense in rushing back before it's completely healed and prolonging the injury. That's what I keep telling myself. The only problem is, I don't always listen. In other news, Dallas has a new marketing slogan. BIG things happen here. They've placed these letters in several locations throughout the city, and one of those locations happens to be the Dallas Zoo. I took my picture to enter the photo contest and posted it on my Twitter page. Ms. Lauren Saulter responded with this comment, "B.G. Does that stand for Big Guns?" Love it! Another reason why we're friends! Food. We bobsledders love our food. That'

Another week...another post. If you're counting (which I most certainly am), that's three weeks straight. Kachow! That just happened. Unfortunately, there's not much to report since last week. Sorry if you were looking forward to one of my famous marathon posts, which I know you all LOVE reading. I really wish tone carried better through print. I suppose that I'm wishing for video, but I don't want to record myself talking. So, I guess I'll just keep writing. Anyhow, I started working out at Zoom again yesterday. It was kind of rough, as I expected it to be after a few weeks off. They were much needed, but getting back into summer training isn't going to be fun. No running this week, just testing out my ankle with lifts and some light plyos. It's a little swollen today. Don't want to rush back, push it too hard and set myself back more. I'm trying to be smart, which is easier said than done once I walk in and see all the other athletes working

Blokus Battles

As promised, another clip of the week. I'm pretty proud I followed through and got this up. This is yet another example of how competitive we are about everything, even board games. This video was taken right before Christmas 2011, and the America's Cup crew had been at the OTC for almost a month. Lake Placid is not a large town, and since many of us do not have vehicles there, we turn to movies, board games, sitting in the cafeteria...anything to fill those hours we're not sliding or training. I was introduced to the game of Blokus by my cousin Mr. Ellis Vogt one Christmas. He is a master. Blokus is an abstract strategy game where up to 4 players try to place all 21 pieces of their designated color on the board. The game ends when players can no longer place any pieces on the board. The player with the fewest unplayed pieces wins. Remember the good old days of Tetris? Now imagine 3 other people are playing Tetris on the same screen at the same time and you've

Bobsled Bull Riding

I've been back in real life for a week now, and my days are not nearly as action packed. I wasn't under some grand illusion that engineering was suddenly going to be an adrenaline rush, but a girl can dream. With my return to calculators and floor plans, so begins my off season. I'm taking a few weeks off from training to let my body heal up from the last 6 months. I'm nursing a fractured finger and sprained ankle back to health before I start my summer training. Bobsled is not a gentle sport. If you've read this blog for awhile, you know how varied my summer posts are. During the season, I simply tell you what's happening in my life. In the summer, you'd be bored to tears if I talked about AutoCAD, bible study & reading books with Katy. Therefore, I have to get a little more creative to keep y'all reading. I've decided to start posting a clip of the week. I have so many clips that get trimmed and edited for my videos, but the raw footage can b
