Big Week!

Image
So, I think it's finally hit me. People have been asking all week if I'm excited about my trip, to which I always respond, "Yes! I'm so excited!" But truth be told, it hadn't really sunk in. I bought the plane ticket, got the confirmation emails for the bus ride, actually started thinking about packing more than an hour before the plane leaves, but it really hadn't hit me till just now. Here I was wondering if I needed to pack my own towel or get some laundry detergent when I started to freak out (in a good way, of course). I've been invited to stay in an Olympic Training Facility with other people training for other Team USA sports. WHAT?!?!?! Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?! This is crazy!!!! I'm so excited!!!!! (That is now a completely truthful answer.) Wow, I'm kind of overwhelmed, to be honest. This is an amazing opportunity, and I'm so thankful for all of it. No matter the outcome, I know this adventure has been worth every second

Dreams

I know I typically try to stick to sports topics on this blog, but this week I'm switching it up a little. Hopefully you read my previous post about Diana Nyad, an amazing woman who never game up on her dreams. I've also read several other inspirational articles this week about persistence being the key to success. The topic even came up in a conversation I had with my dad this week. It went something like this, "I'm not giving up if I don't make the team this trip. I'm nothing, if not persistent. That has to count for something!" This was following by some sage wisdom I absolutely needed to hear. This week I had adopted the "hope so" attitude about my upcoming trip. When he asked if I was ready, I answered with, "I hope so." Not the right answer. "I am," was the proper response, but that's not what came out. He responded with a quote I've heard from my parents many times. "No hoping so, you are. Decide on succes

Extreme Dream

I saw a story on MSNBC today that is so inspiring I just had to share it. At age 61, Diana Nyad is still chasing her dreams. She attemped to swim from Cuba to Key West, Florida. I read that video caption and said, "Say what?!? This is ridiculous!" She has been training for 18 months, swimming up to 24 hours at a time. I've never even swam for more than an hour, and she's attempting to swim 103 miles over 60 hours at age 61. Seriously. Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy So I went to her website to check this awesome lady out. She's just amazing to me. Who takes 30 years off and just decides to come back and go for it right out of the gate? I guess she was taking the go big or go home mentality very seriously. Having already attempted the swim once at age 28, she's at it again. You should check out her site. http://diananyad.com/ It's filled with all the news articles and stories people have done on her life over
