Moving On Up

Megan and I have been promoted! We took one successful run from the lower Ladies Start yesterday. Due to "warm weather" the track was much slower, so we moved up on our third run. (It was 33 degrees instead of the single digits. Still cold, but not nearly as cold. This heat wave made the ice much softer than it had been the days previous.) Megan was only planning on taking two runs from Novice and calling it a day. After two clean runs, the coaches decided it was time for her to move up. So we put our sled on a truck and headed up to Curve 3. We'll stay there until probably Thursday. Then we'll head to the top. We won't be running it off till next week, so I'll just be walking the sled to the crest and hopping in the first few runs of the top. This is no time to get crazy! I'm very happy to say I'm thoroughly enjoying my day off. After sliding early yesterday morning and lifting in the afternoon, Megan and I were ready to relax. We hit up the hot t

It's been snowing for days, and I love it! Megan and I were talking about the snow yesterday. Even when you're frozen after a day of sliding, there's something very beautiful about fresh snow falling. I've never lived in a ski town, but I could definitely imagine myself living here. I'd be out snowboarding every chance I got! We're staying in a group of condos near right near the slopes. You can take the bus outside our door to the lift and head up the mountain. I'm so jealous of the dozens of snowboarders we pass every morning on the way to the track. I would highly recommend Whistler as a ski vacation destination, and I plan on coming back for leisure some time. I wouldn't consider this trip leisure. Any trip you have to go to the gym 3 times a week, lift heavy objects all the time, and get banged around in a bobsled is not technically leisure in my book. Not complaining about this trip, just imagining how fun a ski trip would be. Well, day 5 of 18 w

We made it! Megan and I took our first runs at Whistler today, and she drove like a pro! Everyone was at the Novice Start today, which goes into Curve 7. This is like Start 4 in Lake Placid (where we started in driving school). Our first run was a little rough, but we made it. The next 2 were smooth sailing. Nick, Corey, Jamie & Joy plan on moving up to Ladies Luge start tomorrow, which goes into Curve 3. Meg and I will be at the Novice start for at least 1 run tomorrow. Whatever she needs to do to feel comfortable is great with me! No arguments here. It was freakishly cold here today. My feet felt like blocks of ice walking into the condo. I sat in all my layers in front of the fire to eat lunch. It was -4 degrees F when we got to the track and snowing. So cold. And our sleds are in a metal shipping container sitting in a snow bank. So cold. We had a tiny little low voltage space heater which was on overnight and didn't even melt the snow we'd tracked in on the floo

Whistler, BC

Howdy from Whistler, British Columbia, Canada! We made it! I'm back in Canada. I’m currently sitting in a McDonald’s by our house using their WiFi, so these updates may not be very regular this trip. Megan Hill, Jamie Gruebel, Ida Bernstein, Coach Dionne, Andreas (He's a brand new bobsledder this week, so I don't know his last name), Joy Bryant (She's a skeleton athlete) & myself all loaded a shuttle at 2 am ET this morning to head to Montreal. It was -21 degrees F. Disgustingly cold! Flying out of Montreal was significantly less expensive than flying across the border, and it's about the same distance from Lake Placid as Albany. So, across the border we headed. We were all asleep when we pulled up to the border patrol station. Yet, when the border agent opened both loading doors on the van to make sure we were who our passports said we were, we were all very much awake and SO COLD! Nothing like being awakened and blasted with cold air to get you going. We

I MADE THE NEWS! MY FIRST EVER NEWS INTERVIEW IS IN THE BOOKS! Huge thanks to Shane Ewing and KAKE Sports for sharing my story! I met Shane while doing a sports radio show while I was home over Christmas. I was kind of nervous for my first radio interview, but I had a blast! Huge thanks to Brad Streeter at KSGO Radio (1410 am in Wichita, KS) as well! It's so great to know I have hometown support. I think Shane and I made great guests on the show and both did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself. He did a great job putting this Athlete of the Week interview together as well. I can't thank these two gentlemen enough for helping me to share my story. Check out the link below to see the KAKE Sports page: Athlete of the Week: Nicole Vogt

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2012. I never would have guessed at the start of 2011 my life would be so adventurous, but I ended the year living life to the fullest. I'm excited for all that 2012 holds for me. Bobsledding has introduced me to so many new and interesting people and places, and I can't wait to see where it takes me next. I also want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that has supported me in the last year, both financially and personally. I couldn't pursue my dreams without you all. Thank you for taking time to read about my life and follow my story. Well, last post was quite awhile ago, and I left you all hanging about the big bobsled scrimmage. Katelyn and I faced off against Megan & Sineaid (USA) and Helen & Dianne (Canada). Apparantely just three women's sleds is not enough to be considered a race, so we were technically forerunners for the 2-man race. The drivers still got official race day credit, but we didn't have a me
